Before you travel to Switzerland

Check-in at St Pancras International

Follow these simple steps for a stress free trip all the way to Switzerland:

  • The first thing to remember is to bring your ticket with you. You’ll need the real thing rather than your email confirmation so that it can be read by our ticket machine.
  • You’ll need to check in a minimum of 30 minutes before departure, so we recommend you leave at least 45 minutes, just in case there are any queues.
  • Another thing to remember is your passport. It may strike you as obvious but you’d be surprised how many people forget, and we can’t let you on the train without it.
  • You should also bear in mind that you may need a visa to travel to Switzerland, even if you’ve travelled there in the past without one.
  • Since 12 December 2008 Switzerland has been a member of the Schengen visa scheme, meaning that anybody who needs a Schengen visa to visit other European countries will now need one to enter Switzerland. This includes people of nationalities such as Indian, Pakistani, South African, Zimbabwean, Chinese, Thai, Filipino, Russian etc.
  • To obtain a visa you’ll need to call the premium rate helpline on 090 6577 1222 to make an appointment, before visiting the Swiss Embassy’s premises in London. Find out further details about obtaining a Swiss visa.
