Schiphol Airport
At the airport
Amsterdam’s biggest airport is also one of the largest airports in Europe. Only nine miles from the city centre (around 20 minutes by car or train), it serves more than 50 million passengers annually. There are plenty of shops here (from fashion to electronics), eateries (serving healthy bites and deliciously Dutch flavours) and bars, with mixologists who can whip up passengers something special at a moment’s notice before a flight. Younger travellers will be entertained by the eight interactive NEMO Science Museum setups and the airport’s plane-spotting outdoor park, complete with pre-recorded birdsong, loungers, bean bags and exercise bikes. Free wifi is available throughout the airport.
