Things to do in Amsterdam in the autumn
ADE festival
This annual rendezvous for party people brings together 200,000 revellers in more than 160 clubs for a five-day surrender to electronic beats. Expect all-day parties, industry talks and gear demos, plus headlining performances from the likes of David Guetta and Bonobo.

Pint Bokbierfestival
More than 10,000 beer-lovers are expected at the latest edition of the Netherlands’ biggest beer festival. On offer are more than 100 tipples from breweries large and small, plus bar snacks and live music. Arrive early to be sure of getting to the bar.

Museum night
50 of the city’s most intriguing cultural venues – from the Rijksmuseum to the Pipe Museum – open their doors from 7pm to 2am. Each one goes all out, with music, drinks and workshops. Don’t overlook the smaller galleries and plan ahead, as tickets often sell out.
November.
Turn on the lights
Luxury store De Bijenkorf starts the festive season in dazzling style. Alongside 600,000 lights, there’s a theatrical son et lumière (expect giant marionettes and stunt performers) and fireworks. Stay till 10pm for late-night gift buying.
